Match Report
Storm Thunder took the long dark road down to Kilmarnock for their first game of the season, and after just a 5 minute warm up the game began!
Due to the short warm up we got off to a slow start and before we knew it we were down 10. The Kilmarnock bigs found their touch early on and we allowed a lot of baseline lay ups, forcing us to try and claw back 10 pts early on!
The second quarter was 100% better for us, after playing better defence and being patient on offense, we managed to find high percentage shots and as our bench came in and maintanied the good energy, we found ourselfs back in the game!
3rd quarter saw fantastic play from Thunder, finding ourselves with open lay ups and great looks, but due to lack of boxing out on the defensive end, we were never able to tie the game again, dispite coming within 1 a couple of times.
4th quarter was a good battle, with Kilmarnock trying to open up the lead and Storm trying to grab the lead, but again poor rebounding allowed lots of second chance shots for the home team, and we struggled to bring it back within 5/6 pts.
Dispite the slow start, i am very happy with out play tonight, we found ways to get good looks and stayed with it for much of the game, and once we start boxing out, i am confident that a lot of the games will have a more positive outcome for us. Most importantly i feel like the team enjoyed the game, and done well in proving that we have worked hard this off season, and once we gel more as a team (since many of the players are new to each other ), we will most definatly surprise a few teams this season!
Credit to Kilmarnock for staying with their bigs, who both finished well around the hoop causing problems for us all through the game
Special mention to June Potts, who had a huge 25 points for us, and Rosie Barr with a consistant 12. Nadia Urquhart showed control and leadership in the backcourt, something that was much needed from our vets, so great job Nadia!
