Match Report

1A 69 – Oatlands 65 - @ Notre Dame (Oatlands home game)

1A arrived minus 3 of their regular squad, Gordon Reid, Matt Doyle and Stephen Murdoch.

In their place the new additions of Stewart McCann and Garry Palmer made their debut.

Due to some ‘in house’ issues, the challenge was set to Jason Hutton, Neil Harrow and Robert Graham to lead the team by acting as Coach, Asst Coach and Captain while I sat back and observed.

Jason Huttons subdued coaching style appeared very lax as he sat on the bench and didn’t look like even considering putting himself on court in the first half, this may have been to do with the injury he sustained recently (Split eyebrow).

Neil Harrow and Robert Graham really rose to the challenge and came up with a lot of motivation and tactics, with the rest of the squad contributing well also.

As is often the case this game of runs showed Storm pulling away numerous times then the inexperience of the new players let the good efforts from Oatlands pull back so the game was never made a sure thing – even when 1A went up as much as 15.

Up 38 – 33 at the half, the difference was apparent when Jason finally put himself in and started showing how our defence generates our running offence – this quarter was 17-6 to Storm!

Some foul trouble among the Storm ‘bigs’ made it a cautious finish with Greame Anderson fouling out midway through the 4th, also an ankle injury to Jason ended his night prematurely, leaving Storm to finish the game with 6 players (2 of whom were ‘fresh out the box’ at this level)

Running the clock out up 2 after a push from Oatlands with less then a minute to go, Kev Watters drove to the free throw and iced a jumper to go up 4 with 4 secs to go, the timeout from Oatlands got a three up but it never drew iron and Storm held on for the all important win.

The pre game goal was achieved, the players got the W!

(Scorers as follows according to the sheet but some of the players numbers numbers are wrong which isn’t great for the statisticians out there, I only know this as two of our number 8s buckets were not attributed to him!)

STORM 1A (4) 5, (5) 23, (6) 2, (7) 4, (8) 8, (10) 5, (12) 16 (14) 4

and 2 to whoever scored the first basket of the 2nd half which hasn’t been marked down
